ABSTRACT
It was shown that acute metabolic acidosis is one ofthe significant signs of diarrhoea in new-born
calves. A rectilinear dependence was observed between urine pH indices and parameters of base
excess ofthe acid-base balance in their blood. A method ofcorrecting the different stages of metabolic
acidosis in calves with diarrhoea by sodium bicarbonate, based on urine pH values, is proposed.
